PayPal is a giant finance company that is saving the world with free medical services and benefits.
Today, we’ll be talking about the latest updates to their existing benefits and how it may benefit you.
Here are some of the latest updates:
PayPal will Cover Cost Increases in Medical, Dental, and Vision
Starting from 2022, PayPal will be covering increases in medical, dental, and vision costs. This means that the paycheck contributions for coverage will not change in 2022 (unless you select a new plan during Annual Enrollment).
Prescriptions Drug Changes
The pharmacy providing benefits for UHC medical plan participants will still be CVS Caremark. However, some changes were made on the 1st of January, 2022. These changes include:
-
Shift to a Standard Formulary
PayPal has announced a shift to standard formulary drugs. A formulary drug is a prescription drug covered by a pharmacy plan.
Sometimes doctors may prescribe a non-standard formulary drug that is clinically necessary. In this case, your provider can request authorization from CVS.
-
New Dispense-as-written Requirement
Starting from 2022, if you fill a brand prescription drug when a generic version is available, you’ll pay the difference in the cost of the brand drug and the prescription drug (copay included). But remember that only if the brand drug is compulsory, that is when your provider can request for authorization.
-
Specialty Prescription Discounts
Copay cards are often offered to patients to help them pay the high costs of some specialty drugs. You can use the Copay card supplied by the manufacturer to offset the cost of this specialty drug.
The logic behind copay cards is to reduce the total medical expenses of the patient. As a copay card user, your health insurance is liable to pay some of your costs while the manufacturer pays part through your copay or coinsurance.
Enhanced Fertility Benefits and Adoption Surrogacy Assistance
PayPal provides Progyny fertility benefits (for UHC participants) and enhanced adoption surrogacy assistance benefits.
You may even receive up to $25,000 per child if you adopt or use a surrogate, following PayPal’s adoption and surrogacy reimbursement policies.
More Support for You
PayPal introduces a mindfulness and relaxation app called Calm. This application helps people focus, improve sleep, lower stress, and reduce anxiety.
Below are some of the included benefits that will be available from 1st January, 2022:
- Sweet sleep stories for a better sleep
- over 100 guided meditations
- Music that helps you reduce stress
- A new mindful theme every day with the Daily Calm
Real Appeal and meQuilibrium will Stop Being Offered
PayPal is discontinuing the Real Appeal and meQuilibrium programs from 1st January, 2022. The company says these programs are being dropped because of their low utilization rate.
PayPal also includes robust fitness and health benefits using resources like Vida health coaching, and dietitians for weigh-loss support and physical well-being.
More Money for You in 2022
Depending on the medical plan you enroll for, you may now have access to a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA). You might also be eligible for HRA (Health Reimbursement Account). The money saved from these accounts can be used to pay for eligible medical expenses.
The HSA, FSA, or HRA may also reimburse you for PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) like hand sanitizers, face masks, and sanitizing wipes.
Who is Eligible for PayPal Benefits
Any regular U.S. employee that works at least 20 hours a week is eligible to receive PayPal benefits.
You may also have dependents who are eligible for PayPal benefits. They can be your spouse or children under the age of 26.
